Overboarding: the lasting fix for cracked ceilings
Many Banstead ceilings have reached the point where patching is false economy. Where a ceiling cracks repeatedly, sags between joists or sounds hollow over a wide area, the reliable fix is to overboard — screwing new plasterboard through the old ceiling into the joists — and then skim. You get a brand-new ceiling surface with none of the mess of pulling the old one down, and the original cracks can never come back through.
This is usually a one to two day job per room including the skim, and it is the option we recommend most often in Banstead's post-war bungalows, where ceiling plaster has often been disturbed by loft insulation work over the decades.
