Victorian lath and plaster: repair or overboard?
Most ceilings in Wimbledon's period terraces are lath and plaster, and the honest answer to 'can it be saved?' depends on how much of it has lost its key. Localised damage — a section below a bathroom leak, cracks around a light fitting, one sagging bay — can be cut out and repaired. When a ceiling sounds hollow across the whole room or has cracked in a spreading pattern, overboarding is the sensible money: new boards fixed to the joists, then skimmed, leaving the old ceiling undisturbed above.
We will never sell you a full replacement when a repair will do, or a repair when the ceiling will be back to cracking within a year. The assessment visit is free.
